bird flu med from plant extract: hypercine

In Beijing, a scientist has developed a treatment for bird flu called hypercine, extracted from a plant in the Hypericaceae family. In tests on infected birds, the substance completely eliminated H5N1. Tests on rats will begin soon. Because the extract is a mix of chemicals instead of a single molecule, resistance is expected if hypercine comes under scrutiny from the FDA.
